Want to serve your country and totally immerse yourself in the culture and customs of a foreign country for years at a time? A trained Foreign Service Officer will eat, sleep and breathe every detail of life in another nation, filing regular analysis reports with the U.S. State Department. You’ll have an office at a U.S. Embassy. You’ll travel with a diplomatic passport. You’ll meet with ambassadors and foreign dignitaries. You’ll read everything there is to read, and examine every aspect of the locals’ daily lives. You’ll be an expert and a consultant who helps our government better understand how the other half lives.


education requirements

Bachelor’s in Political Science, Communications or Journalism, with specialized training through the U.S. State Department, and foreign language skills a must


average salary

$42K entry level, with potential to earn more based on experience
