
With the economy in the toilet, there’s a lot of talk about people being out of work. But who is it affecting most?
With everyone lumped together, the unemployment rate was 8.6% in September, according to the New York Times .
Break the numbers down by age, race, and level of education, and you’ll notice some shocking disparities. For those without a high school diploma, the unemployment rate is 28.4%. But if you’re a black man between the ages of 15 and 24 who hasn’t graduated high school, the rate is a staggering 48.5%.
