Would you like to design the next New York City? Urban Planners do just that. You’ll start with drawings and models to figure out the best way to use land, including locations for houses and apartments, office buildings, schools, stores, and parks. You’ll also find the best way to plan roadways in order to keep traffic flowing and air pollution at a minimum. Being creative, personable and diplomatic is essential, as you’ll work with teams of experts, including city and state officials, architects, engineers, mapmakers and ecologists to design layouts for new cities and make existing cities more efficient for the future.
